For a third time, The Design Conference (formerly known as Analogue/Digital), invited us to take on their opening titles. Taking inspiration from mathematical parabolas – we built rigs, threaded them with string, then filmed it all with a tonne of different lights. We wanted to show how the boundary between the real and digital worlds have become so blurred, they’re as intertwined as the lines that represent them.

The custom animated type, Volterra. We chose this typeface because the broken letter shapes looked reminiscent of shadows themselves. We linked the type to the string visuals by using thin lines to draw on each letter. Animation by Breeder, type design by Thomas Johnson Quinn.
